Man Ray Les Grands Trans-Parents Cassina 2000

This iconic design piece is the “Les Grands Trans-Parents” mirror, designed by the famous surrealist artist Man Ray in 1938 and manufactured today by the Italian premium brand Cassina as part of its Simon Collezione. The Wordplay: The name is a clever phonetic pun in French. When spoken aloud, “Les Grands Trans-Parents” sounds exactly like “Les grands-parents” (the grandparents). Visually written on the glass, it translates to “The Great Transparent Ones.” Man Ray originally created this inscription across a larger glass surface. In the early 1970s, he collaborated with Italian furniture pioneer Dino Gavina to adapt this Dadaist artwork into a functional, everyday wall mirror. The elliptical mirror features screen-printed lettering on high-quality float glass. It has a rigid black polyurethane backing. The piece measures 181 cm (71.3 inches) in height and 91 cm (35.8 inches) in width and 4cm depth.
